Cinnamon Ornaments:

These are easy for children to make. All you need are some cinnamon sticks and ribbon.  For each cinnamon stick, you will want to cut a ribbon long enough for to first tie around a cinnamon stick, then to tie in a loop. That is it. Hang from the tree for a wonderful scent this Yule.

Dried Fruit:

If you do not know how to dry fruit, you can do an online search. I just thought of this today, so I have not come up with the specifics.

Just dried slices of apples, oranges, grapefruit, lemon and lime. Then tie ribbon to each slice and hang from the Yule tree.

Yule Crafts

I am a crafter, and I like to get the children involved as well. I do not have a lot of craft projects for Yule as of yet, but I come up with one or two ideas each year.

This page has some fun crafts to start you off:

Pillow Ornaments

These are not very hard, and do not take a whole lot of sewing skills. They are easy for adults, and great practice for those who are just learning to sew.

2 pieces of fabric for each ornament. You will make 3 ornaments, 1 circle, 1 triangle and 1 square

batting for each ornament

1 tablespoon of  dill (for love)

1 tablespoon of  lavender (for peace)

1 tablespoon of basil (for harmony)

needle

thread to match fabric

ribbon to match fabric

Put two pieces of fabric right sides together and sew around 3 sides. Turn inside out and fill with batting and 1 tablespoon of herb per ornament.

Sew the bottom closed, then sew the ribbon to the top.

To enchant each, write 3 simple spells. 1 each for love, peace and harmony. Take up one ornament at a time. Holding the ornament, chant your spell three times, or until you feel that the ornament has been successfully enchanted.

As an alternative, you can repeat the spell as you are making the ornament.

Treat Cones

These are fun cones that can be hung on your children's doorknobs for them to find on the morning or evening of Yule.

Here is what you will need:

stiff paper in Yule colors, cut to the size you want

hole punch

reinforcements (school aisle - to reinforce the holes you make, used in binders so the pages do not rip out - round with holes)

ribbon in Yule colors

Yule type embellishments (tickers, ribbon, gems and the like -used in scrapbooking)

candy, stickers or other cool things to put inside

glue

All you are going to do is start rolling the papers into cone shapes. Glue in place.

Then punch a hole in one side near the top, then the other.

Put a reinforcement on the inside of the cone around each hole, and tie a ribbon through each hole. Make sure the ribbon is long enough for hanging.

You can then decorate the outside any way you like.

Now fill with goodies and hang.
